Running Shoes & Sports Bras for Your Body Type

*Disclaimer: Brooks Running sent me free gear in exchange for this blog post. However, all opinions and statements are my own. I truly love this brand!

There are two, well actually three, things that can make or break your workout – your shoes, your sports bra, and your attitude. If you read this post, you’ll be guaranteed at least two out of the three! 😉

When I was younger, I could get away with buying my running shoes and sports bras solely based on their look and price tag (the cheaper the better). However, I’ve been more prone to injury as I’ve gotten older, and my girls just won’t bare the bouncing of cheapy bras anymore. That’s when I found Brooks Running.

As soon as I put on one of their Launch 2’s, I realized what I had been missing out on. I felt like Cinderella, my glass slipper fit perfectly. Running has been a love of mine since I gave up dancing. It gives me the same euphoria as being on stage (runner’s high is a real thing!). With shoes that fit me properly, I was able to go longer without (minor) injury, my running time increased, and my runs became more enjoyable.

When I found out Brooks sold clothing, I knew I had to get my hands on their cute and functional apparel. When it comes to spandex and t-shirts, I got it handled. However, after my first sports bra purchase from them, I knew I could use a little guidance. The support was perfect for strength training, Yoga, and barre, but not good enough for running or HIIT.

I decided to get some professional advice. I visited my local Fleet Feet to get a sports bra and shoe fitting. The shoe fitting just as expected. I found out my feet had already found their one-true love, the Launch 4 (now on it’s fourth series). I did get some insight into why the shoe works for me. I learned that I have a neutral foot with a high arch, so the cushion support is perfect to give me a little extra boost. I’m also a heel striker, so the midst transition zone with segmented crash pad creates the perfect quick heel-to-toe transitions.

The bra situation was going to be a little more of a gamble. After trying on a wide-range of max support to light support I found one that fit like a dream, the Uplift Crossback Sports Bra. It’s always a plus when you like the way it looks too! Every busty girl knows the feeling of wishing she could wear those cute, little, strappy tops. Now you can :). It keeps my girls in place without feeling constrictive. I’ve tried on so many bras that give me support but squeeze like crazy around the rib cage and lat areas.

If you live by a Brooks retailer, I would highly recommend getting a fitting if you’re an active lady (and if you’re reading this post, you most likely are). If there isn’t a store near you, Brooks actually has online Sports Bra and Shoe Finders. All you have to do is answer a few, straight forward questions and they’ll give you personalized recommendations!

  1. This post is really interesting specially for me because I really like wearing running shoes. The information is really informative. Thanks for this.

  2. I’m definitely going to check out this brand. So far, I haven’t found a sports bra that gives me the support I need. And I need plenty! lol

    1. Haha yes definitely try brooks then! Let me know which one you order 🙂

  3. I love gym clothes and live in them at weekends so good support is really important! Never heard of this brand before though but looks fab #twinklytuesday

    1. Me too! It’s definitely worth a try 🙂

  4. Sports bras are my nemesis!! 🙂

    1. Hahaha oh no! Why’s that, Sarah?

  5. Hi Honey, Mom here. Well do you really think my DD’s will be supported enough in that bra? I usually wear one with an underwire. Brooks has another underwire option but I don’t suppose you have any info on that.
Looking fab Darling daughter…..and I mean from the inside out!!
    Love you

    1. Aw thanks mommy!!! You should go get a fitting or use their online bra finder :D. I tried on the one with under wire and liked it but just didn’t need quite that much support.

      1. Yea I tried the online fitter. Might try one of the ones they recommended. Thx for the inspiration!!
PS my barre instructor said she wanted to take a picture of me and send it to you- my form was sooooo gooooood! Yayyyy

        1. I can’t wait to hear if you do. Yes!!! Have her do it!!! 🙂

  6. I have to look into this brand, I love doing HIIT workouts but they can be so uncomfortable in cheapy sports bras!!
    X Izzy

    1. Me too! Let me know what you think when you check out Brooks 🙂

  7. I’m in desperate need of a good pair of shoes! I’m not a runner (yet!) but I walk a lot and my shoes never last. It’s frustrating because I’m spending a lot of money on shoes that break down within a month or two. I’m definitely going to get fitted!

    1. If my shoes are uncomfortable, my workout suffers (no mater what it is)! I hate when shoes break down so quickly! My brooks last me at least 6 – 8 months depending on my mileage and how much I wear them for my workouts too

  8. Awesome post!

    1. Thank you Samantha! What shoes do you wear?
